What it does? The VYCON® Direct Connect (VDC) clean energy storage system utilizes advanced flywheel technology that provides clean energy storage and reliable extended-life DC voltage for power applications in critical IT and data center facilities. As a cost-effective replacement or supplement for a bank of toxic lead-acid batteries in Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems the VDC system provides ride-through power for short duration power outages or until a standby engine-generator can come on line. When integrated with a UPS system the VDC flywheel provides protection against more than 99.5% of power disturbances that can interrupt critical IT equipment and data processes.

What makes it Innovative? VYCON's VDC Direct Connect DC power system is the leading green solution for providing the highest level of power protection to critical IT systems. Now IT managers are able to protect their IT infrastructure with innovative flywheel systems that are much more reliable cost-effective and significantly more environmentally-friendly than UPS battery-backup. Because VYCON's energy storage systems replace traditional lead-acid backup batteries used with UPS systems users gain a smarter and greener approach to power protection. Lead-acid batteries are toxic heavy maintenance intensive need frequent replacement have special disposal requirements and demand costly cooling to maintain service life.Utilizing VYCON's patented flywheel technology the VDC provides up to 220kW of DC power (up to 300kW of DC power with the Xtended Energy system) within a single cabinet. For longer run times and higher power capacities the VDC can be easily paralleled without needing a special communications link. For extended power outages the VDC will seamlessly provide enough ride-through protection to transfer to a standby engine generator for a continuous power system.Tested and compatible with all major brands of three-phase UPSs and available from VYCON's industry leading channel partners Eaton and Chloride the VDC features a 20-year life without a major service interval. In contrast UPS batteries need to be serviced or replaced every 3 to 4 years. For applications without an engine generator-set or for those who still want to use batteries the VDC and VDC-XE can operate in parallel with batteries. In this configuration the VDC is the first line of defense against power disturbances saving the batteries for prolonged power outages. By absorbing power glitches the VDC systems significantly increase battery life by handling over 98 percent of the discharges that would normally have shortened the batteries useful life.
